The Solemnity of the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle
January 25 is the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle, the Feast Day of the Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle, the Paulist Fathers, who have staffed the American Parish in Rome since 1922. The Paulists were founded in 1858 by Fr. Isaac Thomas Hecker, who was named “Servant of God” seventeen years ago when the Cause for his Canonization was begun in New York City. He wanted to create an order of priests that could explain the Catholic faith to the largely Christian but non-Catholic world in the United States. With the help of several other American priests, he founded the Paulist Fathers, the Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle, in honor of Paul of Tarsus. Fr. Hecker responded creatively to the challenges of preaching the gospel in the U.S., taking the message to the people rather than waiting for them to come to him. On this day we pray for the living and deceased members of the Paulist Community, for vocations and for the continuation of our mission.
Prayer Request Book
Outside the St. Brigid Chapel, you will find a Book in which you can list your requests for prayer for an individual or family whom you would like our prayer group to pray for each month. Just write down the person’s name and if you wish, their need. For example: James Smith for a successful surgery this week; for Rachel Jones for spiritual healing; for the repose of the soul of George Wilson, etc. On the first Monday of each month the group (which you can also join if you wish) will visit a Church in Rome and sit in silent prayer. If you are interested in participating in this group, please write to Linda Behnke at lindabinrome@gmail.com.
